Reviews

Richard Schickel TIME Magazine | February 20, 2009

As a director, Costner is alive to the sweep of the country and the expansive spirit of the western-movie tradition.

Amy Dawes Variety | January 28, 2008

In his directorial debut, Kevin Costner brings a rare degree of grace and feeling to this elegiac tale.

James Berardinelli ReelViews | January 01, 2000

It's a rousing adventure, a touching romance, and a stirring drama.

Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times | January 01, 2000

A simple story, magnificently told.

John Hartl Film.com | January 01, 2000

Recalls the sweep as well as the intimacy of a David Lean epic.

Desson Thomson Washington Post | January 01, 2000

Costner (with Michael Blake's screenplay) creates a vision so childlike, so willfully romantic, it's hard to put up a fight.

Hal Hinson Washington Post | January 01, 2000

A stunning combination of all-American boyishness and sweeping grandeur.
