Synopsis

An epic adventure and passionate romance unfold against the panorama of a frontier wilderness ravaged by war. Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor in 1989 for My Left Foot) stars as Hawkeye, rugged frontiersman and adopted son of the Mohicans, and Madeleine Stowe is Cora Munro, aristocratic daughter of a proud British Colonel. Their love, tested by fate, blazes amidst a brutal conflict between the British, the French and Native American allies that engulfs the majestic mountains and cathedral-like forests of Colonial America.

Reviews

Peter Travers Rolling Stone | May 12, 2001

...the action is richly detailed and thrillingly staged.

Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times | January 01, 2000

...not as authentic and uncompromised as it claims to be - more of a matinee fantasy than it wants to admit - but it is probably more entertaining as a result.

Charles Taylor Salon.com | January 01, 2000

He conceives of the story as if it were a gigantic piece of mood music.

James Berardinelli ReelViews | January 01, 2000

...big, bold, and gloriously sweeping.

Desson Thomson Washington Post | January 01, 2000

Mann wasn't thinking story, he was thinking scheme. Keep the eyes and ears dazzled, he reasons, and the substance will follow.

Rita Kempley Washington Post | January 01, 2000

Painstakingly, breathtakingly re-created by director Michael Mann, this landscape makes room for heroes with principles greater than the circumference of their biceps.
